Adam Vasilakis's Bio:

Adam Vasilakis is a recent graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute located in Troy, New York.  Adam graduated with a degree in Product Design and Innovation with a minor in Marketing and Electronic Arts.  With the combination of his Design major, and Marketing minor, Adam Vasilakis learned how to create and develop innovative products and then bring them to the marketplace.     RPI's product design program is a very unique program that combines technical, social, and creative approaches while addressing contemporary problems through design and innovation.  The core of this program focuses on giving their students the opportunity to work on multiple hands-on projects, both individually and in teams.  The projects are either real world problems or mimic real world problems to give their students the best learning opportunities possible.  Their aim is to help their students grow exponentially through their program.    Adam Vasilakis has extensive experience in the design process through his college programs.  He has had constant interactions with diverse groups of people through school based product design studies.  Adam has been able to work productively, independently or part of a team.   Some of his designs from both individual projects and group work include headphones that you can wear in your sleep, logos for companies, 3D modeling on CAD (computer aided design), and a small canon made from aluminum among many more.   Adam Vasilakis also completed a summer industrial design sequence at Rhode Island School of Design.  There he developed several product designs including garden tools in collaboration with the National Arthritis Foundation and park bench designs for the City of Providence, Rhode Island Parks Department. Adam felt that it was through this program that he was able to increase his knowledge of aesthetic and ergonomic design as well as improve his sketching and prototyping skills.    This past year Adam worked in a co-op program at Hasbro Toys Global HQ in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.  He was part of the global product development team.    Adam Vasilakis' resume and portfolio of his designs can also be viewed at www.AdamVasilakis.com and some of his past designs can be found here.     2013 NEWS: The Change the World Challenge announced that Adam Vasilakis, as part of a team of students at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, is a winner of the competition. The goal of the competition was to encourage students to further develop, patent, and turn their winning ideas into life-changing ideas and technologies.  Adam Vasilakis' winning entry is the DUCO Safe Needle System is a uniquely designed package and system that prevents the accidental reuse of hypodermic syringes between patients. In addition, the materials are recovered and can be recycled by the manufacturer.       Adam looks forward to his future work in product development and is very proud of his degree.  In his spare time he enjoys synthesizing music and playing golf.
